The Sunrise.

And just like that 2020 is behind us.  Hello 2021! I find myself sitting quietly, reflecting on what was good about last year.  I firmly believe that during awful and gut wrenching times in our lives that God is still working for our good.  Even when things are hard, good things are happening parallel to the tough stuff.  When I miscarried in 2002, I remember a specific moment in which I sat on my couch staring out a window.  I found myself in awe of the trees that were moving with the wind, there was still life outside of me even though it was not within me.   I was caught in two moments... one of life and one of death, and God was overseeing both.  The feeling I had is as beautiful and sad today as it was then.  I was in the midst of hard, and God was working for good.   I view 2020 with similar sentiment - sad but beautiful.  I am not, however,  going to write about the sad stuff - we all had moments - some worse than others - but we made it to this day!

A new day the Lord has made! How blessed are we?  Very.

I am reminded of God's blessings every time I witness a sunrise, and this morning the sunrise was gorgeous.   The colors of the sun were especially vibrant - pinks, purples, oranges and yellows lit up the sky.  About a month ago there was another spectacular sunrise that made me take notice. That morning I saw bright colors peeking over the rooftops and asked a friend to send me a picture from her vantage point.   She has a wonderful view of the rising of the sun every morning from her kitchen table, with only a row of winter trees in the backdrop of her view.  The picture she sent me was amazing and the bare trees added drama to vibrant colors of the sunrise behind them. The beauty I saw from my window,  only a few blocks away, was small in comparison to the heavenly sunrise in the horizon of her backyard.  It was truly magnificent!

Maybe 2021 is our universal sunrise.  We may only see bits of color from where we stand, but by reaching out and asking others to share their view, we may see a grand, beautiful and bright horizon.   It could possibly be the light we need to heal our hearts and open our eyes to the beauty that surrounds us.

Seek beauty.

Watch the sun rise.

Happy New Year!
